When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
This verse represents an ending and finality to many things. It is the end of the old Covenant from the Old Testament, the fulfillment of prophecy, and reveals Jesus' work in 'paying off' all human debt in Sin. No longer would man have to sacrifice a lamb to atone for their wrongdoings, but instead follow their faith in Jesus Christ to receive salvation.
